Alcan Projects Gove Project Expansion and Upgrade Costs to Increase by 25%

Montreal, September 22: Alcan stated on Friday that the cost of upgrading and retrofitting Gove alumina refineries in Australia will be 20% to 25% higher than the expected $1.5 billion. Canada Aluminum, the world's second-largest producer of primary aluminum, said that it is expected that capacity expansion will begin in the first quarter of 2007, in line with the company’s original schedule of 27 months.
