Asia Aluminum Initiates Construction of Zhaoqing Aluminum Extrusion Plant

Asia Aluminum has started the new construction of the Zhaoqing aluminum extrusion plant. The extrusion plant is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2005 with a design capacity of 25-30 million tons/year. Alcoa is also building a 400,000-ton aluminum sheet plant and a 2,000-ton/year finishing plant in Zhaoqing. The new aluminum sheet plant will be completed in the first half of 2006, and the finishing plant will be ready for production in the evening of October this year. The investment of 400 million U.S. dollars will significantly increase Asian Aluminum aluminum product production capacity, so that the company can further meet the Chinese market demand for aluminum products, especially high-quality aluminum plate strips. Aluminium Asia had signed a letter of intent with the Linzhou Aluminum Plant in July 2002: Asia Aluminum will purchase all the billets from the Linzhou Aluminum Plant as the raw material for the production of 47 aluminum extrusion presses in Asia Aluminum.
