Recently, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) provided 15.14 million Australian dollars (about 71.77 million yuan) to the solar photovoltaic panel efficiency research project to promote the reduction of the overall cost of photovoltaic panels and the disposal of battery scrap. Research teams from universities such as Macquarie University, University of New South Wales and University of Sydney have received relevant funding. The R&D project lasts for 2 years. The goal is to establish a world-leading solar photovoltaic R&D institution and support solar photovoltaic power generation in the following areas, including advanced silicon technology (improving the overall cost-effectiveness of silicon-based panels and their production processes in mass market production ), tandem silicon technology (increasing the cost-effectiveness of silicon-based solar photovoltaic power generation through the use of tandem materials), new materials (the potential of developing new materials may achieve breakthrough cost-effectiveness, or the potential for new deployment applications) and end-of-life technology (New solutions, including early-stage solar photovoltaic panel design and end-of-life treatment, to improve the cost-effectiveness of sustainable solar photovoltaic panel end-of-life management). Currently, about 12GW of small-scale systems and more than 5.7GW of large-scale solar photovoltaic systems have been installed in Australia. Solar energy is playing an increasingly important role in Australia's energy structure. About a quarter of Australian households have installed solar panels. Therefore, the number of scrapped photovoltaic system equipment in the next few years will become one of Australia's largest e-waste streams. Australia is technologically advanced in the field of solar photovoltaic cells. This is the first time ARENA has sought a solution to the problem of solar photovoltaic cell scrapping.
