Relaxation mechanism and control of rare earth single-molecule magnet gain important progress

A few days ago, the results of a “research on the theory and method of rare earth single-molecule magnet relaxation” won the first prize of the Jilin Provincial Natural Science Award in 2014. The achievement was made by the researcher of Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Changchun Institute of Science and Technology of China, using molecular magnetic materials as the research object, and made a series of important advances in the relaxation of rare earth single-molecule magnets and spin topology control, revealing the multiple relaxation mechanism, and proposing and developing The mechanism of effective regulation of the relaxation process provides an important theoretical basis for designing excellent molecular magnetic materials.

The information storage device is one of the important devices in electronics. In recent years, the storage density has grown rapidly, and it is close to the limit of the existing technology. Therefore, there is a need to develop higher storage density magnetic materials and more advanced data processing technologies. Thus, the research of single molecule magnets came into being. Single-molecule magnets are single fixed-size molecular nano-magnets. They have the advantages of small size, light weight, multiple structures, and easy adjustment. They have broad application prospects in high-density information storage and quantum computing.

The researchers of Changchun Yinghua Institute successfully prepared a Dy6 single-molecule magnet composed of two Dy3 units “edge-to-edge”, and achieved two ring-shaped magnets for the first time through the connection of the toroidal magnetic moment cell and the adjustment of intramolecular magnetic interactions. The assembly and co-orientation enhancement of the moment function primitives has resulted in the maximization of the toroidal magnetic moment, which has led to new developments in the frontier fields of rare earth single-molecule magnets and single-molecule magnetic rings.
